Kids-Talk! Circle Time

Kids-Talk! Circle Time is a visually powerful and engaging resource that instantly provides an imaginative, practical and non-threatening springboard for dialogue between professionals and children in a group setting. It reflects a range of experiences, environments and relationships which define most children’s lives and enables them to share common experiences and benefit from the social and emotional experience of a group.

Kids-Talk! Circle Time contains a large, durable 130cm segmented circular board, a spinner and 18 packs of text cards. The segmented board features six categories:
• Myself
• Family
• Friends
• School
• Thoughts and feelings
• Words and actions.

The text cards are organised into three clearly defined levels of complexity, with 20 cards at each level per category. The cards are characterised by four types of ‘talk structures’, which encourage verbal exchange and interaction and ask more complex and demanding questions as the cards go up in level.

Kids-Talk! Circle Time cards are placed onto their matching segment on the board, with the three levels either separated or mixed together, or with certain levels/cards omitted if desired. The facilitator introduces the categories and the pupils are then requested, in turn, to read out a card to discuss. The spinner can be used to add a sense of chance and ‘risk taking’, as the child will not know which category they will have to discuss. The degree of physical involvement and interactivity ensures that visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners are supported throughout the entire dialogue experience.
