The Peacezone curriculum is designed to help you make your school or classroom into safe and violence free by increasing the ability of children to promote peace, make positive decisions, avoid risk-taking behaviours, and deal with trauma and loss. The programme focuses on three key ideas to achieve these goals:
• The innate strength and resiliency of the young
• How violence, grief, and loss can play a key role in the choices children make
• The importance of life skills not only in students' school lives, but also in their homes and communities.
The Teacher's Guide is divided into six teaching units, each unit contains 4 to 5 lessons with discussion starters, games, activities, stories and project ideas. The last lesson of each unit links the topic to a community service activity.
Age: 9-10
"The…curriculum emphasises the development of self-control, empathy, and cooperation in an effort to develop 'emotionally literate' children with the necessary skills to resist risk-taking behaviour... The individual lessons are well constructed with easy to follow and well-outlined steps."
