This is a thought-provoking audio-visual programme to promote respect for oneself, others and the community. It covers:
• Not me – which is about identity and attitude
• I am – which is about true self
• Big deal – which is about self-worth, self-respect and self-esteem
• Witness respect yourself – which is about negative influences, a ‘forced’ identity
• The power of groups – which is about group influences and pressures
• The doc method – which is about dilemmas, options and consequences
• Being social and proactive – which is about interaction within society
• Celebration of ourselves – which is about peer education.
The resource is easy to use and particularly effective when delivered via an interactive white board.
“All the pupils have taken something from the experience. It has been a confidence builder, they have started to listen more and has made them realise their opinions matter. They also realise that they are important and valued. The children come from deprived neighbourhoods and have realised that what goes on at home is not okay and have the confidence to find their own voice, so respect for themselves and those who value their opinion have increased.”
