This resource will provide young people with the opportunity to develop a range of self-reflection and problem-solving skills that will contribute towards the prevention of more problematic mental health problems in the future. They are introduced to concepts, skills and strategies that can be utilised throughout adolescence and their adult lives. The programme starts with an introductory PowerPoint presentation, accompanied by facilitator’s notes and training activities. These introduce ‘stress’, placing it in context within the well-being agenda, the Every Child Matters five outcomes and the current SEAL initiative. The training materials provide staff and prospective facilitators with opportunities to ‘try out’ some of the resources and practise some of the skills and techniques including relaxation approaches, prioritising and planning, positive thinking, self-nurture, developing scripts, organisational top tips, and trigger identification. The programme is further supported by appendices including strategy sheets, information sheets for students and parents, and advice on when and how to refer on to specialist agencies. 180 pages Age: 11-18
